THE 2023 LACKENMIER AWARD HONOREE: Maureen A. Hanlon, Esq. '87
Maureen is the Founder and President of Flatiron Consulting Group, LLC and the President and CEO of Onexim Sports and Entertainment Holding USA, Inc. Maureen joined Onexim Sports and Entertainment after over 25 years in New York City law firms, most recently as a senior corporate partner in the New York office of Hogan Lovells.
As President and CEO of Onexim Sports and Entertainment, Maureen led the sale of the Brooklyn Nets in a two-stage sale for a reported $2.35 billion, the then highest price paid for a US sports franchise and the related sale of Barclays Center, with a reported aggregate value of approximately $3.5 billion. Maureen led the analysis and negotiations and managed the integration of each of the Company’s businesses. She oversaw extensive domestic and international tax planning and coordination with governmental agencies, joint venture partners and financing sources. She also implemented and oversaw NBA rule compliance, construction, renovation and operation of two arenas (Barclays Center and Nassau Coliseum) and the famed Webster Hall in East Village, New York and complex financing structures including PILOT Bonds, EB-5 Financings and government funding vehicles. Ms. Hanlon also oversaw the company’s interest in a mixed-use development surrounding Nassau Coliseum. During her tenure at Onexim Sports and Entertainment, she served as an alternate governor on the NBA’s Board of Governors.
Maureen practiced as a senior corporate partner with broad experience in corporate, commercial and real estate areas, specializing in domestic and international joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, financings, intellectual property licensing, corporate restructurings and real estate development. While working in a variety of industries, Maureen’s experience has primarily been in sports, media and entertainment. In addition to representing Onexim Sports and Entertainment prior to her joining the company, Maureen spent many years advising numerous divisions of Twentieth Century Fox/News Corporation, including their sports networks, cable networks and programming, film studio, interactive media and publishing divisions. She also provided counsel to high-net-worth individuals and family offices in connection with the acquisition, disposition and financing of real estate, fine art, antique books, collectibles and other investments.
Maureen obtained her J.D. from Columbia Law School (New York) and her B.S. in Accounting from King’s College (Wilkes-Barre, PA) where she currently serves on its Board of Directors. Maureen also holds a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University.
Ms. Hanlon is a member of the Board of Directors of Sensorium Galaxy. Ms. Hanlon is admitted to the New York State Bar and received her CPA certification in Pennsylvania. Maureen is a member of Chief, an invitation only women senior executives’ association. She was named as one of City and State NY’s Most Powerful People in Brooklyn in 2018 and 2019 and was named as one of Sports Business Journal’s Power Players Outside Counsel in 2016.
